Summer School – Overview

Collaborative Research on Very Preterm Birth:

Concepts and Methods – Working with the RECAP Preterm Data Platform

Welcome to the RECAP Preterm Summer School. We are happy that you are attending this unique scientific event.

Discover the RECAP Preterm Summer School from the comfort of your home: Learn about existing cohorts of children and adults born very preterm or with very low birthweight, new research studies using the combined data from these cohorts carried out on the RECAP preterm platform, and their findings on the consequences of very preterm birth. The Summer School will also provide information and guidance on how to implement a collaborative research protocol, including the ethical and legal requirements, data harmonisation, the technological aspects of storing and sharing data, and analytic approaches and software.

Between July and end of September 2021, we moderate a Discussion Forum set-up specially for the Summer School. And don’t miss to participate in our multiple-choice quiz once you will have watched all modules, to receive a certificate for your participation.

If you have any questions during the RECAP Preterm Summer School, please don´t hesitate to contact us via the Discussion Forum.

We wish you an interesting and successful course!

Your Organising Committee

PS: You missed the launch date of the RECAP Preterm Summer School? No problem: Registration is still possible till 20 September 2021.

To the registration form

Before you start, we would like to give you some organisational tips to facilitate your participation in the Summer School:

You will find the following sections on the RECAP Preterm Summer School website:

  • A short video highlighting the core objectives and goals of the RECAP preterm project.
  • Ten different modules of about one hour each. Each module includes several presentations animated by various speakers.
  • An examination of knowledge gained during the course and a feedback form to be completed at the end of the course.

Please be aware that some of the information you receive in our Summer School is under submission for publication. Therefore, please do not share the password, the link to this Summer School, copy or share content of the modules unless you have the permission of the presenters. If you would like to ask the permission to use content from the Summer School modules, feel free to contact us via the Summer School Discussion Forum.

Thank you for your understanding.

Although you are free to decide which modules and which presentations you want to watch first, we suggest following the order given by the numbers (e.g. 1 – 11). This makes it easier for you to understand the context and the interrelationship of the single lessons. You may, of course, choose to watch each presentation as often as you want.

We have set up a discussion forum to give you the chance to ask questions, make suggestions and discuss your research proposals with each other and with experts in the different fields of research that are involved in RECAP preterm. A separate discussion thread has been created for each of the presentations included in the Summer School, organised according to the module in which they are found. You are encouraged not only to ask questions but also to join in discussion with other students. The forum will be moderated between July and September 2021 and all registered participants will automatically be registered on the forum. Please post a brief introduction so that others can know a little bit about you!

We are happy to certify your successful participation at the end of the Summer School. In order to receive a certificate, participation in all modules and a score of at least 80 % in the multiple-choice questions is required. The certificate will be sent via e-mail beginning of October.

Your feedback is important to us! You have the possibility to give us your feedback on the Summer School via the quiz:  at the end of the multiple-choice quiz we reserved space for your comments and suggestions
