The University of Tartu belongs to the top 1% of the world’s most-cited universities and research institutions in the fields of Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Environment/Ecology, Plant and Animal Science, Geosciences, Social Sciences (general), Biology and Biochemistry. There are collaborators at the Estonian Genome Center that have experience in linking a population biobank with national health registries. The Department of Pediatrics of University of Tartu and pediatric services of Tartu University Hospital and Tallinn Children’s Hospital have 8-year experience with a follow-up system of all high-risk newborns in Estonia, i.e. population-based approach involving all important subspecialties necessary for qualified follow-up and contact with national cohorts of very preterm infants and their parents.
